Since June of 2017, e-waste collection events co-hosted by Boofy’s Best for PetsPaws To People, and New Mexico Computer Recyclers have saved 9,185 pounds of donated e-waste from the landfills, raising almost $2,000 for research that fights diseases shared by humans and animals. Our partnership’s efforts continue Saturday, April 21, 2018, from 11am until 3pm at Petroglyph Plaza, 8201 Golf Course Road NW in Albuquerque.

Almost anything with a plug — except TVs and microwaves – will be accepted for recycling: computer and office equipment, electronics, and electric home appliances in any condition. Use this free opportunity to declutter closets and storage areas in your home or office. For questions about whether specific items can be donated, please see New Mexico Computer Recyclers’ list posted here (http://nmcomputerrecyclers.com/what_we_accept.html).

Albuquerque-based Paws To People will receive a donation from the e-waste collection based on the total weight of goods donated. The organization advocates for, and funds coordinated research in, veterinary and medical fields to improve the lives of people and pets. They are currently funding a data collection study that looks for connections between water quality and autoimmune diseases.

We at Boofy’s believe a healthy environment contributes to both pet and human health, and our recycling efforts extend past the collection of used electronics.

Paws to People and Boofys Best Recycling

For the past two years we have participated in Earthborn Holistic’s Earthborn ReBorn retail recycling program, in which empty dog and cat food bags are sent to TerraCycle to be recycled and upcycled into dog catch toys, aprons, and molded plastic items.  To date our customers have kept 2,057 Earthborn Holistic dog and cat food bags out of the waste stream, thereby generating $270 in donations to Paws To People.

The UPC codes from Earthborn Holistic bags separately provide for the planting of trees in areas that have been affected by deforestation. Both collection programs, UPCs for Trees and Earthborn ReBorn, are ongoing at Boofy’s.  Empty, recyclable Earthborn Holistic dog and cat food bags may be dropped off any time during regular business hours.

Over the past few years 8,642 pairs of used shoes have been redirected from landfills by Paws To People to help communities develop small businesses, grow their economies, and provide jobs. Boofy’s has been instrumental in collecting over 3,000 of these pairs with the help of our customers and supporters.
