Boofy's Best for Pets proudly presented the inaugural Furry Burque Film Festival, showcasing short films about our furry friends, on Saturday, November 17th, 2018, at the Guild Cinema in Albuquerque.  The festival was a benefit for Second Chance Animal Rescue, a New Mexico-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping displaced animals have a second chance at happiness.  Twelve short films from all over the world were featured in the festival, and winners were determined by audience vote.

WINNERS OF THE 2018 FURRY BURQUE FILM FESTIVAL:

FIRST PLACE:  Zeus the Service Dog (Alejandro Medina, New Mexico, USA):  The filmmaker was first diagnosed with epilepsy when he was seven years old, and he has had his service dog, Zeus, for a year and a half. See how Zeus has changed his life for the better.

SECOND PLACE:  Feline Paralysis (Annie Laurie Medonis, Massachusetts, USA):  A humorous look at a serious problem that afflicts many of us: feline paralysis (the condition in which a person is unable to move due to the presence of a cat on one's lap).

THIRD PLACE:  The shelter/El albergue (David Norris, Puerto Rico):  After 35 years a solitary old man will try to mend his relationship with his son by replacing the cat that he threw away when his son was a kid.

Proceeds from ticket sales, the fundraising raffle, direct donations, and a donation from event sponsor Your Pet Magazine raised $985 for Second Chance Animal Rescue!  Thank you to everyone who attended and participated!
