An Adoptable Foster Dog Gives Back by Organizing an Animal Rescue Fundraiser
Reggie loves t-shirts… almost as much as he loves Second Chance Animal Rescue! He’s been through a lot in his 8 years, but Second Chance has always been there for him when he needed assistance. Now, as he awaits his true forever home while being fostered at Boofy’s, he’s come up with a fundraising plan to help his helpers: Reggie’s Secondhand T-Shirt Second Chance Fundraiser!
Reggie has called upon his friends and associates to bring him the coolest t-shirts hanging out in their closets and drawers. For just a $5 per item suggested donation, you can jazz up your wardrobe from an eclectic mix of t-shirts featuring pet foods, animal-related organizations and causes, bands, vacation destinations, and cult classics. Secondhand t-shirts are great for casual wear, sleep shirts, and t-shirt surgery… and they’re environmentally friendly. All proceeds from this animal rescue fundraiser benefit Second Chance Animal Rescue, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Drop by Boofy’s to peruse the ever-evolving selection of t-shirts and say hi to Reggie!
About Reggie:
Reggie was picked up as a stray 8-week-old puppy in Corrales approximately 8 years ago. When he wasn’t claimed, Second Chance Animal Rescue secured his release from Corrales Animal Control and eventually found him a good home (or so they thought). A year and a half later, however, Reggie’s adoptive family dropped him at Albuquerque Animal Welfare on Christmas Eve, falsely claiming he was dangerous and not good with people or other dogs. The truth was, the family was getting a shiny new puppy and wanted adult Reggie gone. Their lie about his temperament left him red-tagged and at the top of AAW’s euthanasia list, but Second Chance was able to secure his freedom and get him to safety again.
After a peaceful period in a foster home with many other dogs, Reggie was adopted out a second time. In August 2012, however, his adoptive parents divorced and Reggie lost his home and family a second time, this time after four and a half years. He came back to Second Chance yet again, and after bouncing around a couple of foster homes he ended up in boarding at the Corrales Kennels due to a lack of available fosters. Although he was a favorite among the volunteer dog walkers at the Kennels, he became more and more depressed without a home and family to call his own. After meeting Reggie a few times when he visited the store for chews and a warm coat, we decided to foster him to give him more stability and visibility while waiting for his forever home.
Reggie is a gentle soul who deserves a home where he will be loved and appreciated for the fantastic dog that he is. He’s appears to be a yellow lab mix (with pit? Shar Pei? shepherd?) and weighs about 50 pounds, making him the perfect size. As visitors to Boofy’s can attest, he’s a good-natured boy who likes meeting new people of all ages, sizes, and genders, and he’s always excited to make new doggie friends. He’s been a little too interested in cats, but he’s slowly improving his interactions with felines. He’s very eager to please his humans, is house trained and crate trained, and rides in a car like a pro. While he’s happy to hang out with his people and get belly rubs and butt skritches, he’s also a strong, athletic dog who would enjoy an active lifestyle of walking, running, hiking, and romping with a doggie buddy.
UPDATE 3/24/2013: Reggie was adopted!
Reggie has found his forever home and now gets to enjoy long walks and comfy naps with his new little brother Rascal.
